Taz Taylor sponsored by DLR Transport riding for the RS Racing KTM had another mixed weekend during round 10 of the HEL Performance Motostar British Championship, at Assen Circuit in Holland. He took a stunning and close victory in race one on Saturday and was eager to repeat the performance on Sunday. However, the clouds opened and Taz was unfortunate to crash out on the final lap.
Taz was looking strong again all weekend and was battling with Dutch rider and rival all season Scott Deroue. The weather in Holland was mixed throughout the weekend and second qualifying was wet so the first race grid was established in qualifying one, where Taz was second. He got a great start in race one and once again had to battle throughout the entire race with Scott Deroue, eventually taking a stunning race win by 0.08.
He wanted to repeat it again in race two on Sunday; he got another good start and was away at the front. The rain came down and the race was red flagged on lap three. After a delay the race was declared wet and a short six lap sprint. Taz got off to a flyer and after lap two had a 1.2 second lead from Deroue. As the rain fell on part of the circuit and was dry on the other part of the track, it made racing very difficult. Taz was very quick on the dry part of the track but sadly was caught out on the final lap whilst challenging for the lead and crashed out.
Taz Taylor – “I felt really good at Assen this weekend but we did lose a lot of track time over the weekend due to the weather conditions. I really wanted to secure a double race win this weekend and I was really pleased with the way I rode in race one and did feel pretty comfortable in race two but I got caught out with the slippery track.
I’m gutted to have crashed and the last few meetings just haven’t gone to plan despite our best efforts. I would like to thank my team for all the hard work they always put in and just sorry to them. I hope to end the season on a high at Silverstone and Brands. It will be really tough now to win the Championship but you just never know in racing what can happen, so I’ve certainly not given up!”
