£1.5 million repair project on Acton Swing Bridge in Cheshire
DLR Transport working in partnership with Premier Traffic Management Limited on behalf of contractors, Kier have been involved with the traffic management of A £1.5 million repair programme to refurbish Acton Swing Bridge, near Northwich. The 84-year old bridge carries the busy A49 road over the River Weaver Navigation.
The work has been arranged and funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
The project involved a complete refurbishment of the bridge deck, including strengthening works to the underside of the bridge as well as improvements to the bridge appearance.
While the works took place, the traffic over the bridge was restricted to one lane using DLR Transports concrete TVCB barrier system which were installed and removed at night.
The route is important to both the borough and the local community. Richard Spencer, project manager at the Canal & River Trust said: “These essential deck strengthening works follow the emergency repairs carried out in December 2014 and July 2015 and will safeguard the bridge for many years to come. The project we’re carrying out will mean the 84-year old bridge is refurbished for the thousands of vehicles who use this vital route every day.”
